OpenAI’s GPT-5 has been making waves ever since its release a couple of days ago, being hailed for its superior performance and overall capabilities. Hence, for all those who integrate OpenAI’s GPT models into their software ecosystems, the GPT-5 integration is the next big thing. News from the Silicon Valley now reveals that Apple is all set to integrate the newest GPT-5 model into its iOS, macOS and iPadOS ecosystem.

Hence, this suggests that the upcoming iPhone 17 series, which is rumoured to consist of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will come with the latest version of GPT-5 models integrated, thus making Siri a lot smarter than the current version. In a race against other top brands like Samsung and Google, Apple’s integration with GPT-5 could give the upcoming iPhones a good chance against its competition.

Apple to integrate GPT-5 with iOS, macOS

The integration is designed to work in combination with Apple’s own on-device AI model. Currently, Apple offers ChatGPT’s services as an option for when Siri is unable to serve. When a user’s request is too complex for Siri’s native AI to handle, such as queries involving photos or documents, the system will offer the user the choice to send the request to ChatGPT. This optional feature puts the user in control, allowing them to decide when to utilise the cloud-based power of GPT-5 or stick to a less capable AI model.

A key part of the functionality is the integration of ChatGPT directly into the iPhone’s Camera app. Through the feature called Camera Control, the AI can analyse the user’s environment to provide useful, contextual information. For example, it could identify plants, landmarks, or other objects in real-time. This feature has already been available on Android phones for years in the form of Google Lens and is now integrated into the Gemini AI chatbot.

Additionally, users have the option to connect their existing ChatGPT accounts to save their request history, ensuring a seamless experience across devices.

A brief on GPT-5

Earlier in the week, OpenAI released GPT-5 for free to all users. Unlike the previous versions, the new GPT-5 model is available for everyone, including the free-tier users. However, those who have a paid OpenAI plan can log in to access additional benefits. Paid users get to use the full benefits of GPT-5 with fewer limitations.

The integration also emphasises safety, with GPT-5 promoted as the “safest model to date” thanks to a new feature called “Safe Completions.” This strategic partnership shows Apple’s commitment to delivering a robust AI experience, combining the security and privacy of its on-device models with the expansive capabilities of a leading third-party generative AI service.

What remains to be seen is whether GPT-5 gives Siri and the upcoming iPhones an edge over the rivals.
