Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air, expected to launch in September 2025, could be the thinnest iPhone ever, with rumours suggesting it could be only 5 to 6mm thick. While a super slim design sounds exciting, there are questions about how Apple will fit all the necessary components, such as the SIM tray, into such a thin device.

According to recent reports, Apple might remove the physical SIM tray from the iPhone 17 Air. This move follows Apple’s previous step in 2022, where it removed the SIM tray in the US for the iPhone 14 series, moving to eSIM technology. eSIM allows users to activate cellular plans without a physical SIM card, making the device even slimmer and more secure.

If Apple removes the SIM tray, it would be a bigger shift toward eSIM, which is already popular in the US but has yet to fully catch on in some countries like China. Apple may eventually remove the SIM tray in all markets, but it’s unclear if China will be included.

In terms of specs, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.1-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth visual experience. It will be powered by the A18 chip, promising faster performance, better energy efficiency, and enhanced gaming and photography features. The camera is also getting a boost with a 48-megapixel sensor, better zoom, and AI improvements for better low-light shots.

While the iPhone 17 Air is still a while away, fans are excited about its potential to offer a sleek design, advanced features, and a more secure eSIM future. Keep an eye out for more updates as the release date approaches!
