The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max debuted the innovative Action button, a user-configurable feature that replaced the traditional mute switch. This button offered diverse functions such as toggling silent mode, activating the flashlight, launching the camera, and more. Although initially planned alongside haptic volume and power buttons for the iPhone 15 Pro, the Action button remained and became a prominent feature in the final models.

Now, Apple is extending the use of the Action button to the entire iPhone 16 lineup. According to MacRumours report, the updated version of the Action Butto is codenamed Atlas and it will function akin to the Touch ID Home button on older iPhones or the Force Touch trackpad on recent MacBooks. The revamped Action button will incorporate a force sensor to detect pressure changes and “tact-switching functionality,” details of which are not fully clarified at the moment.

The iPhone 16’s Action button will inherit additional features, making it more versatile. Internal documentation indicates plans for a “Capture” button with similar capabilities. As per the same news report, Apple has experimented with different sizes of Action button with some prototypes feature a larger button than the one we currently see in iPhone 15 Pro.

iPhone 16 is making headlines for its rumoured specifics. According to Mark Gurman, the iPhone 16 Pro series will feature larger displays. A separate rumour report citing an integrated circuit expert’s post on Weibo states that the equipment used for manufacturing the chips for iPhone Touch ID has been permanently shut down, with the remaining units being allocated for the third-generation iPhone SE.

Apple in 2024 is also expected to launch a 11 and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with OLED display, an iPad Air, third-generation AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and a refreshed Apple TV later in the same year. There are also talks that the Cupertino giant could introduce a foldable tablet in 2025 or beyond.
