As Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 16 event draws near, fresh details have emerged, revealing exciting upgrades for the iPhone 16 Pro. According to a recent leak shared with 9to5Mac by reliable sources, the Pro version of the new iPhone is set to offer some game-changing features, including the ability to record video in stunning 4K at an ultra-smooth 120 frames per second (fps).
This advanced video recording capability is expected to deliver exceptional clarity and fluidity, especially when paired with an external SSD for ProRes quality footage. The iPhone 16 Pro’s new video features are set to enhance the device’s appeal to both amateur and professional videographers alike.
In addition to this, the iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly upgrade its QuickTake photo mode, allowing users to capture video in 4K resolution rather than the current 1080p standard. This enhancement aims to deliver higher quality video with improved detail and precision.
The leak also suggests that Apple will introduce several other notable features, including support for the JPEG-XL image format, a new option to pause video recordings, and advanced wind noise removal. The iPhone 16 Pro is also said to include new special video modes and improved machine learning (ML) image processing for more accurate skin tone representation. Although the sensors may have the capability to support 8K video, this feature might be reserved for future iPhone models.
A standout feature in the new iPhone 16 Pro is the redesigned Camera Button, which is rumoured to be a versatile new side trigger. This button is expected to allow users to switch from the default camera app to third-party alternatives, such as Halide, through a simple slide gesture. Additionally, it will support adjusting zoom and exposure, along with soft and hard presses for focusing and shooting. This innovation will leverage the iOS 18 API, which also facilitates customisation of the homescreen camera button.
