Google is celebrating it’s 27th Birthday, and to add a little nostalgia into the mix it shared a Doodle featuring the Original Google logo. Google was started by two Stanford PhD graduates Larry Page, Sergey Brin in 1998. The Big Tech firm started from a garage while now is the powerhouse of technology serving billions of users through its products.
Interestingly Google was originally not named as “Google”. The search engine was originally named as the ‘BackRub’. However it was changed to the present name after a brainstorming session in 1997, since they wanted to name the search engine something which reflects the vast amount of information available on it.
How did the name Google come into existence?
The name “Google” emerged from a misspelling of “googol,” a mathematical term representing the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. However when Sean Anderson searched for the domain he typed it as Google accidentally instead of Google. This was however liked very much and was thereofore registered as Google.com within hours.
When is Google’s actual birthday?
Although the company Google was incorporated on September 4 1998. Yet the company celebrates its birthday on September 27 since the early 2000’s . Since this date celebrates a significant milestone in the growth of Google’s search engine platform.
However today’s Google has launched various products and services including G-Mail, Google Maps and and the Chrome browser. All of these are used by millions of users worldwide. Reminding entrepreneurs that humble beginnings can transform the world significantly.
