Instagram, over the past several days, was buzzing with trend of generating 3D figurines or retro saree edits. Users of the social media platform have been using the Nano Banana AI tool, which is another name for Google’s Flash Image Model 2.5, to generate these edits. The edits generated ranged from AI saree, 3D figurines of oneself to Bollywood and anime character figurines.
Nano Banana is an image-editing AI embedded in Google’s Gemini app. It initially gained popularity for producing 3D edits that resembled figurines, but the practice quickly spread to other formats, most notably the wildly popular saree edits. The Gemini app launched this image model in August, and yet it has already generated over 200 million image edits in just a few weeks.
