In an official blog Google explained that with the ‘file upload’ feature you can upload files directly from your phone within the Gemini app. Google further added that with the new feature it aims to upgrade its Gemini App for mobile users. The ‘file upload’ feature is available for both iOS and Android users.

How to use the ‘file upload’ feature

The ‘file upload’ feature was initially limited to the Gemini 1.5 Pro platform for web users. But now Google has expanded the feature for smartphone users also. The initiative came after Google introduced the Gemini mobile App. As of now the feature is available for Gemini Advanced users.

So how can you upload the files in your Gemini AI app? Here’s how you can upload files from your iOS and Android devices:

  • First you need to open the Gemini app in full-screen on your iOS or Android device.
  • Now you need to click on the ‘plus’ icon. You can find the ‘plus’ icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen, next to the microphone and camera options.
  • Next you will see a sheet sliding up. The sheet will present the three upload options that are available in Android and iOS. These options include Upload from gallery, Upload a file and Upload from Drive
  • Now you should choose the files that you want to upload. You can choose them either from your cloud storage or your device.
  • Now you are all set to upload the files directly into the Gemini AI app.

However, the iOS version of the Gemini app will not support the ‘Upload from Drive’ option. Furthermore, Google explained that it aims to provide the same functionality as in Gemini AI’s web version in Gemini’s app version in your smartphone.
