Good value for money: Cinematic sound sets this Blaupunkt 65-inch TV apart

While a 55-inch high-resolution screen (4K and 8K) is very popular these days, consumers also want seamless streaming capabilities, advanced voice control and smart home integration, and features like 120Hz refresh rates for smooth gaming and sports viewing.

The Blaupunkt 65-incher sports a bezel-less frame with a slim profile and a metal base. Ideal when wall-mounted, it is equipped with a plethora of modern features.

Walking through an electronics store at a shopping mall, I was taken aback by the high price tags of smart TVs from established brands like Samsung, LG, Sony, among others. While a 55-inch high-resolution screen (4K and 8K) is very popular these days, consumers also want seamless streaming capabilities, advanced voice control and smart home integration, and features like 120Hz refresh rates for smooth gaming and sports viewing. Blaupunkt releases a fair share of new models every year and the 65-inch Mini QD Google TV (BQD65Mini7066) from its Milkyway Series is a versatile unit that comes with Dolby Vision and a six-speaker setup, and a modest price tag of 64k.

Bezel-less frame with smart connectivity features

The Blaupunkt 65-incher sports a bezel-less frame with a slim profile and a metal base. Ideal when wall-mounted, it is equipped with a plethora of modern features. For instance, there is Mini LED technology combined with Quantum Dot enhancements. This setup allows the TV to display over 1.1 billion colours and achieve a peak brightness of 1,500 nits; essentially this means clearer images even in well-lit surroundings. For connectivity, there is dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, Chromecast, and Apple AirPlay support. It runs on the Google TV platform and comes with a built-in Google Assistant for voice commands.

Switched on, the TV’s motion estimation and motion compensation (MEMC) 120Hz refresh rate creates artificial frames to make motion appear smoother and reduce motion blur, especially for fast-moving content. It also has nearly instant pixel transitions, so motion is crisp and clear. In addition to that, our trial unit had low input lag for a responsive feel. The model also supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG for enhanced picture quality.

For audio, Blaupunkt has equipped the TV with a 108W Dolby Atmos-certified speaker system. The setup includes six speakers (two dedicated subwoofers), offering an integrated sound experience that doesn’t require any external devices. I connected it to the home Wi-Fi system and what I really liked about its display is there is no glare whatsoever – no visibility issues even in bright rooms. You also get the same wide viewing angle as the more expensive model, so it’s great for wide seating arrangements. One gets to enjoy sharp and smooth gaming sessions with lag whatsoever.

I believe this is Blaupunkt’s first offering in the high-end smart TV category and its audio and video quality truly impresses; the Milkyway Series unit handles almost everything you throw at it. In a dedicated home theatre setup, it’s a standout primarily due to its crisp and clear audio. The display is quite bright, accurate and vibrant, therefore, streaming the latest Netflix action movie is a visual delight. Most people will be satisfied with its performance in daily use.

Overall, a good offering at this price point.
