Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced a new feature that will allow Facebook users to create and manage multiple personal profiles. It will let Facebook users easily switch between these profiles without the need to log in and out repeatedly.

“Whether you’re new to Facebook or a longtime user, you may want to keep your personal and professional relationships separate, or you may want to keep one profile tied to a community you’re a part of and another profile just for friends. Creating multiple personal profiles lets you easily organise who you share with and what content you see for the various parts of your life. Think one profile for the foodie scene you love and another one to keep up with your friends and family,” Facebook wrote in a blog post.

With this new feature, Facebook aims to provide users the flexibility to compartmentalise their online presence, separating personal and professional relationships or dedicating specific profiles to different communities and interests.

According to Meta, this feature will make it easier for users to control who they share content with and curate their online experience according to the various aspects of their lives. For instance, one could have a profile dedicated to their passion for the foodie scene while maintaining another for personal connections with friends and family.

Facebook will allow users to create up to four additional Facebook profiles, which can be accessed conveniently from a menu accessible by tapping on their profile picture located in the bottom right corner of the toolbar. However, there are some limitations with these additional profiles. For starters, the Messenger app will not support them, and access to features like Facebook Dating, Facebook Marketplace, and Professional Mode will not be available through these additional profiles at this moment. Facebook plans to bring Messenger support for additional profiles in the coming months.

While the notifications and privacy settings when you create an additional personal are automatically set to default settings, some settings require to be managed separately for each profile, such as choosing who can see that profile’s posts or who can send friend requests to that profile.

To create additional Facebook profiles:

Choose a name and have an @username for up to four additional personal profiles.

Connect with the people or communities you choose so each profile has a unique Feed with relevant content and shared interests. You can now easily switch between your profiles, with no login required every time.
