Elon Musk brings X videos to your living room with new TV app

The new X TV app is available in beta on Google’s Play Store, the Amazon App Store, and LG’s app store.

X TV app launched for smart TVs
The new X TV app is officially a go.

X (formerly Twitter) is stepping up its game, aiming to become a serious contender to YouTube. While the platform has grand ambitions to eventually take over everything from WhatsApp to LinkedIn, its current focus is on video content. And what better way to do that than by launching a native app for smart TVs? Now, families can gather around the big screen and bond over X videos from the comfort of their living rooms.

The new X TV app is available in beta on Google’s Play Store, the Amazon App Store, and LG’s app store, making it accessible to a broad audience. However, if you’re one of the rare Apple TV users still hanging on to the old Twitter app, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for an update, as the new app isn’t available on Apple’s App Store for tvOS just yet.

So, what can you expect from X TV? According to the Google Play Store listing, the app allows users to browse and watch videos posted on X, including live events and news, along with pre-recorded content. The app is free, but you’ll need to sign in with your X account to access all the content.

Before the launch of X TV, the only way to enjoy X videos on your television was by casting them from your iOS or Android app. With this new app, you can now scroll through the endless stream of content, without being tied to your smartphone.

In the app description on Google Play Store, X promises a “trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV!” The app offers a new way to experience X, bringing “unique and engaging content right to your living room.”

Screenshots of the app tease exclusive content, live events, and news, signalling that X is ready to take its video game to the next level. Whether or not it becomes a YouTube rival remains to be seen.
