Meta’s Facebook Messenger, Instagram down for thousands of users

Facebook and Instagram are both down with thousands unable to access their accounts.

Meta’s social media platforms Facebook Messenger and Instagram were down on Tuesday (February 5). Social media users worldwide encountered widespread frustration when Meta-owned platforms, such as Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and others, experienced extensive outages, including in India.

Users reported sudden logouts and encountered difficulties navigating the platforms. Many users were also asked to change passwords.  

Additionally, issues with the Meta-owned instant messaging application WhatsApp were also reported by many users. YouTube users also started facing a similar issue. 

According to a Reuters report, there were more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook, while there were more than 20,000 reports for Instagram.

Meta is ‘working on it’

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X social media.
