In India, Aadhaar is a 12‑digit unique identity number given by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) to residents. It’s used as proof of identity and address. For children under five, a special version called Baal Aadhaar (child Aadhaar) is available. It includes the child’s name, photograph, date of birth, gender, and is linked to one parent’s Aadhaar number. But it does not require biometric data (fingerprints or iris scans) for that age group.

However since there are lot of documents like Passport which have to be linked with Aadhaar Card. Therefore making a Baal Aadhaar card for your children becomes even more necessary. However don’ sweat it out we have mentioned all the steps and documents required for the same.

How to Apply for Baal Aadhaar (Under 5 Years)?

You can apply both online (to schedule an appointment) and offline:

Online steps (appointment booking):

Visit the UIDAI website.
Go to “My Aadhaar” → “Book an Appointment.”
Choose your city, mobile number, get OTP, and verify.
Pick a date and time for your visit to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre.
On that day, the parent whose Aadhaar is being linked must submit biometric verification (for the parent) and Aadhaar details.
Submit the child’s documents and form.
After processing, the Baal Aadhaar is mailed to your address. You can also check or download it via UIDAI.

Offline steps (direct visit):

Visit a nearby Aadhaar enrolment centre.
Fill out the form at the centre, give the child’s documents, and the parent gives their biometric and Aadhaar data.
You will receive an acknowledgment slip with an enrolment ID. Keep it to check status later.
The Baal Aadhaar is delivered in about 60 to 90 days.

What Documents Are Needed?

To get Baal Aadhaar, you’ll need:

(A) The child’s birth certificate or hospital discharge slip
(B) One parent’s Aadhaar card (because the child’s Aadhaar is linked to it)
(C) Proof of address (can be the parent’s Aadhaar or certificate from local authorities)

When the Child Turns 5 or Above!

Once a child reaches 5 years or older, biometric data must be collected (fingerprints, iris scan, photograph) for their Aadhaar or to update existing one. If the child’s Aadhaar was issued while under 5 (with no biometrics), then when they turn 5, they must update biometric data.

At 15 years, another update is needed (re-enrollment of biometrics and photo). Between 5 and 15, you can also make updates (change details) by visiting an enrolment centre (for a small fee) if needed.
