Amid the Indian Government’s focus on making India the electronic manufacturing hub, ASUS, Taiwanese laptop giant, is planning to increase its domestic production by 10% year on year. Furthermore, ASUS is also aiming to make inroads in the commercial PC segment and to increase the number of stores across the country.

During the inauguration of an exclusive store in Ahmedabad, Mr Eric Ou, Country Head of ASUS India, said, “The Indian PC market has a lot of growth potential and we are very optimistic about this growth. We have been growing in India in terms of market share and now we will continue to grow our production in India. We are planning to add 10% incremental capacity year on year to our production in India.”

Inaugurating Ahmedabad’s 7th and 24th store in Gujarat, Arnold Su, Vice President, Consumer and Gaming PC, System Business Group, ASUS India, said, “In the calendar year 2023, we witnessed a growth of around 15-20% in our sales in India. We are the second largest player in the consumer PC segment with a market share of more than 20%, while we are the largest player in the gaming segment with a market share of around 35%. ASUS currently has 272 stores across the 29 states of the country and we are aiming to cross 300 stores by September, 2024.”

Commenting on the online and business in the Indian market, Su also said, “With around 65-70%, offline business makes the major part of our sales in India. The younger customer base, majority of our buyers, prefers to visit the stores to have a feel of the technology. This is the reason we are enhancing our physical presence across the country.”

Su further told FE, “The premium segment of the consumer segment is growing much faster due to the increasing disposable income of the consumers. Increasing number of Indian youths are choosing to become professional gamers. ASUS is also running an academy project to train the youths to become professional gamers. Currently, the gaming segment makes only 18% of the overall consumer PC segment in India but we are expecting it to increase rapidly in the coming years.”

Talking about the future plans of ASUS in the Indian PC market, Su and Ou said, “Indian households have a PC penetration of only 11% and 89% of the households do not use PCs and this will change over the coming time. So, there is a huge potential for growth in every segment of the Indian PC market and we are planning to grow in every segment of the market in India.”
