As September wraps up, Apple is gearing up for an exciting October filled with new product announcements and software updates. Following the release of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, Apple Watch Series 10, and AirPods 4 last month, the tech giant has more innovations on the horizon.
Upcoming software releases
iOS 18.1 and Apple Intelligence launch: The highly anticipated Apple Intelligence will soon debut alongside iOS 18.1. Users with compatible devices can access the public beta now, while the full rollout is expected by mid-to-late October. This update will introduce a variety of AI features across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, including – enhanced Siri capabilities, AI-generated summaries for notifications, Object removal tools in Photos, Prioritised messages and summaries in Mail, writing improvement tools, a new Focus mode dubbed “Reduce Interruptions”, on-demand Memory movie generation, and summaries for Safari web pages. These features mark the beginning of a year focused on integrating AI into Apple’s ecosystem.
New hardware arrivals
M4 MacBook Pros – Apple’s popular MacBook Pro line is set for an upgrade with the new M4 chip, available in three variations: M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max. All three models, including the 14-inch and the premium 14- and 16-inch versions, will see enhancements. While a redesign isn’t expected, there may be surprises in store.
M4 Mac Mini – The Mac mini is also receiving a refresh, sporting a more compact design without sacrificing performance. Users can choose between the standard M4 and the M4 Pro, although the Pro variant may have a later availability.
iPad Mini 7 – The iPad mini 7 is making its debut, three years after the sixth generation. Building on the previous model’s design overhaul, it’s expected to feature internal upgrades such as improved display technology, compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro, and increased base storage.
M4 iMac – Lastly, an M4 iMac is anticipated, following the recent M3 release. While it’s unclear if this will be a simple specs upgrade or a more significant redesign, new USB-C accessories and potentially fresh colour options are on wish lists.
Future updates
iOS 18.2 Beta- Shortly after the iOS 18.1 launch, Apple plans to release the first beta of iOS 18.2, promising exciting new features like Genmoji for personalised emoji creation, the Image Playground app, ChatGPT integration with Siri, context-aware capabilities for Siri and enhanced inbox organisation in Apple Mail
There’s speculation about a new 10.9-inch base iPad. Although initial rumours suggested an October release, recent reports indicate that display shipments are delayed, pushing a potential launch to early 2025.
