Apple is gearing up to compete with Meta in the wearable technology category. The company is investing heavily in research and development of new products to stay relevant in the competition of making AI-supportive hardware. According to a Bloomberg report Apple is developing AI powered smart glasses like Meta.

The report states that these glasses might run on Vision OS, which is already powering the Apple Vision Pro headset. Apart from this the AI powered glasses will offer features like music playback, photo and video capture, voice assistance and importantly health tracking.

This report depicts a broader shift in Apple’s attention from Vision Pro headset to AI glasses. Although the Vision Pro created iths niche audience and market, yet it failed to create a significant impact for Apple in the market. Therofore the company is trying to shift its attention to a more practical techonolgy AI glasses, which are aimed for a mainstream audience.

AI glasses specs:

As far as the specifications of the AI glasses are concerned it might operate in two modes, depending on the type of device it’s connected to. If users will connect it to a MacBook the glasses will run on the full vision OS. Whereas connecting to an iPhone will make them run on a lighter mobile-friendly interface. This flexibility will allow a more smoother user experience and the glasses inegration to the Apple ecosystem.

The market for smart glasses is heating up. Meta has already introduced its Ray-Ban line, now with in-lens displays, priced from $799 in the US. Samsung, which is working with Google, is also reportedly preparing its own version. But even with these head starts, Apple’s proven track record in creating consumer products that become cultural fixtures means its entry into the space will be watched closely.

Instead, they are likely to begin with features such as built-in speakers, cameras, AI-driven voice controls and sensors for basic health monitoring. Future versions could eventually move toward augmented reality spectacles and, at the very top end, continue to coexist with the Vision Pro line. Apple is expected to announce the first-generation glasses in 2026, with a commercial launch planned for 2027.
