Diageo India has unveiled its latest travel-retail offering – the Godawan Triple Cask Travel Exclusive, available in select duty-free airports and beginning its rollout at Bangalore’s airport, followed by Mumbai and Delhi later this year. Crafted specifically for global travellers, this new expression adds another layer to the brand’s award-winning artisanal Indian single malt range.

Godawan Triple Cask Expression has its roots in Rajasthan

Distilled at Diageo’s Alwar distillery in Rajasthan, the Triple Cask release draws aesthetic and sensory inspiration from the intricate jaali woodwork of the region – an emblem of craft and elegance. The whisky undergoes maturation in traditional ex‑bourbon barrels before a three‑way finishing process in PX sherry, virgin oak, and cherry wood casks. The result is a 46% ABV, 700 ml bottle showcasing golden-brown hues, floral and fruity aromas, a creamy, layered palate, and a gentle wood finish. Priced at approximately Rs 5,500, it positions itself as the ideal travel partner, perfect for celebratory moments or thoughtful gifting.

“Godawan Triple Cask Travel Exclusive edition introduces a new dimension of flavour and depth while staying rooted in the mindful luxury and provenance that define the brand,” said Vikram Damodaran, Chief Innovation Officer, Diageo India. “This channel enables us to meet consumers at moments of discovery, where gifting, collecting, and connection converge… carrying the spirit of Rajasthan to a global audience in a way that is personal, purposeful, and proudly Indian.”

David Grady, Country General Manager at Avolta Duty-Free, spoke of the bottle’s travel-retail debut: “We are proud to be the first travel retail destination to launch Exclusive Godawan Single Malt… a spirit that reflects India’s evolving premium palate and craftsmanship… offering discerning travelers rare and exceptional products at Bengaluru Duty Free.”

Premium spirits entering the travel retail sector

The duty-free sector has become a strategic avenue for craft spirits, as international travel recovers and consumer demand shifts toward novel and collectible expressions. According to Grand View Research, the global duty-free liquor market reached USD 7.49 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a 10.2% CAGR through 2030.

Praveen Someshwar, CEO & MD of Diageo India, added, “Airports have become high-impact brand discovery zones where travellers are more inclined to explore, gift, and trade up… For emerging luxury brands, it offers high-impact visibility and access to a discerning global audience. The combination of premiumisation, limited-edition formats, and cultural storytelling… perfectly aligned with Godawan’s terroir-led, craft-driven philosophy.”

Since its launch in 2022, Godawan has quickly garnered numerous international accolades. Distilled under the extreme desert conditions of Alwar, the single malt is anchored by its pillars of craftsmanship, mindful luxury, and conscious consumption. The brand features five unique expressions, each showcasing a different cask finish, from light and floral to robust and spicy. Named after the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard (Godawan in Hindi), the brand supports conservation efforts in Rajasthan through per-bottle habitat donations.
