The notorious Rhode Island farmhouse that inspired The Conjuring film franchise is once again in the spotlight, this time for an eerie reason. The historic property, infamous for its alleged paranormal activity, is set to be auctioned on October 31 in a foreclosure sale, according to JJManning Auctioneers.

About the Conjuring house

Built in the 18th century, the estate stretches across 8.5 acres and includes a 3,000-square-foot home with 14 rooms. It has three bedrooms and a library. The farmhouse gained worldwide notoriety after members of the Perron family, who lived there during the 1970s, reported disturbing supernatural encounters. Their experiences later inspired James Wan’s 2013 box-office hit The Conjuring, which went on to become a billion-dollar horror franchise. The series’ most recent installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, premiered in theatres just last week.

Who owns the house currently?

The property last changed hands in 2022, when it was purchased for $1.5 million by Bale Fire LLC, led by Boston real estate developer and self-proclaimed medium Jacqueline Nunez. Under her ownership, the house was transformed into a paranormal tourism destination, offering overnight stays, guided ghost hunts, and special events designed to attract horror enthusiasts from across the globe.

However, the business struggled to sustain itself. In 2023, Nunez made headlines after accusing her property manager of theft, claiming she had been tipped off about the alleged wrongdoing by a resident spirit. This unusual allegation escalated into a broader dispute with former staff over wages and workplace treatment, according to WPRI reports.

Local officials soon intervened, revoking Nunez’s entertainment license after raising concerns about safety standards and inconsistencies in her permit documentation. Despite the restrictions, operations reportedly continued, leading to several guest complaints over cancelled tours and refunds that never came through. These setbacks left the venture financially unstable, ultimately resulting in a mortgage default and the upcoming foreclosure sale.

Despite the troubled history, the haunted farmhouse continues to fascinate paranormal followers and pop culture fans alike. Several high-profile people have already expressed interest in the property. Comedian Matt Rife and YouTuber Elton Castee, who previously purchased another haunted property in Connecticut connected to famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, have publicly indicated they are considering acquiring the Rhode Island estate as well.
