Entrepreneur, philanthropist and Ram Charan’s wife, Upasana Kamineni recently opened up about her approach to nutrition for their daughter Klin Kaara Konidela, born in 2023 after nearly 12 years of marriage. Speaking in a recent interview, Upasana emphasised on the importance of traditional Indian ingredients in her daughter’s diet, with ragi being the hero ingredient, because of its loads of health benefits.
Ram Charan’s wife Upasana Kamineni follows Sadhguru’s advice
In a conversation with Curly Tales, Upasana credited Isha Foundation head Sadhguru for inspiring this daily ritual in her household. “Ragi is my favourite food and I make sure my daughter has ragi every day. Sadhguru told me, ‘Make sure she has ragi in any form every day,’” she said.
Upasana also revealed that Sadhguru’s daughter, Bharatanatyam dancer Radhe Jaggi, has long been an advocate for traditional fermented beverages such as kanji. Sharing her interaction with Radhe Jaggi, Upasana said, “Sadhguru’s daughter told me that he would make kanji for her every day. Look how fit and glamorous she is and I want the same for my daughter, so I make her have ragi kanji.” Asked whether little Klin enjoys it, she responded with a smile, “She has to like it. There is no choice. It is non-negotiable.”
Ram Charan’s love for home-cooked meals
During the same interview, Upasana also spoke about Ram Charan’s preference for home-cooked South Indian meals, even when travelling internationally. Upasana revealed that this habit of her husband eventually led to a business idea. “I started as a convenience because it was my problem. We used to go to the best restaurants in the world and then he would come and say, ‘Okay, now I need Indian food.’ I was like, ‘Where will we find Indian food at 11:30 pm in the night?’ Then we would go searching for Indian food in different countries because one meal of his has to be Indian, and it has to be breakfast or dinner. And not North Indian, his food has to be South Indian, and it has to be home-cooked. And when he is shooting, then it is a must,” she recalled.
To address this challenge, Upasana began carrying ready-to-make dry home foods while travelling. “Now I travel with dry home foods everywhere. So I can just get everything ready in 10 minutes,” she added.
