A 35-year-old woman died of swine flu at a private hospital here, taking the total number of deaths due to the H1N1 virus to five in the city this year.

The woman, hailing from Harda district, had tested positive for swine flu and had been admitted to the hospital on January 16. She succumbed to the virus during treatment yesterday, in-charge Dean of the state government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College Dr Sanjay Dixit told PTI.

Fourteen people have tested positive for H1N1 this month, out of whom five have lost lives. Rest are undergoing treatment at different hospitals, he added.

“A five-member team of doctors headed by MGM Dean has been formed to control the spread of H1N1 virus. With the help of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) it was keeping a tab on the treatment being given to swine flu patients,” he added.

Last year, 10 people had tested positive for swine flu, of whom six had died of H1N1.
