In recent years, many Bollywood celebrities have taken to entrepreneurship to establish a secondary source of income that supplements their primary one. Most of them however, invest in these business ventures after having amassed a substantial amount of wealth so it is rare to see some stars strike out before establishing their film careers. One such example is Kapil Sharma’s Kis Kisko Pyar Karoon 2 co-star Parul Gulati who began her own business while managing her acting jobs simultaneously.
Parul Gulati, who debuted on screens in 2009 with a supporting role in the Yami Gautam and Gaurav Khanna-starrer Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, has quietly been working behind the scenes to achieve her dream of one day owning a hair extension business and she has succeeded in building a company that is worth Rs 50 crores now according to industry tracker Traxcn.
Building Nish Hair from the ground up
In 2017, Parul Gulati started the hair extension company that she named Nish Hair with only a Rs 30,000 personal investment as per the Indian Express and grew it from scratch. The company sells all kinds of hair accessories such as extensions, wigs, toppers, hair tools and more, providing an all-in-one platform for hair styling solutions.
Gulati pitched her hair start up during Shark Tank season 2 finale in 2023. Surprising judges with her confidence in Nish Hair’s ability to sell products worth Rs 5 crores in the upcoming year. Impressed with her conviction, shark Amit Jain offered her Rs 1 crore for 2% equity. The rest, as they say, is history and today Nish Hair is worth Rs 50 crores and still growing in a previously untapped market.
The inspiration behind Nish Hair and further ambitions
The actor revealed that the idea for her hair company came from a very familiar yet unusual source. In a behind-the-scenes chat for Shark Tank, she revealed that she had been inspired by the Kardashians and their affinity for wigs. “I was watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and I heard Khloe talk about hair extensions. This was back in 2016, I guess, and I was like, “The day I have my own business, it will be hair extensions,” she revealed.
Gulati is also highly ambitious and aims to earn a billion dollars through Nish Hair’s expansion. Speaking on a podcast recently hosted by Neet Bherwani, she said that her ultimate goal was to become a Billionaire. “That’s the goal. My mom told me, ‘You have such big dreams, and that scares me sometimes.’ I told her that there is nothing scary about it, and I do want to make a billion dollars. I was recently talking to Anupam Mittal, and he told me that once you cross the Rs 600 crore mark, you have fu** you money. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.”
