From exclusive fine dining to zero wastage, food festivals in New Delhi and Mumbai whip up a feast for the senses

Beautiful sunny weather and clear skies are themselves a reason to celebrate in Delhi, but this weekend has been a celebration of food as well. With three different food festivals across the city, it has been a feast for the senses.

Palate Fest, which is being held at Nehru Park, is hosting a plethora of chain and standalone restaurants—some of them offering exclusive fine-dining experiences—as well as market stalls offering gourmet foods for takeaway and plenty of live entertainment. Be it a serving of cup noodles, steaming hot momos or an exquisite meal from the best of restaurants the city has to offer, Palate Fest has something for everyone’s plate and palate. Add attractions like talks, forums and discussions on literature, fashion, art and food, besides play zones and cooking demonstrations, and this becomes the perfect Sunday recipe.

The third edition of The Gourmet High Street is on at DLF Cyber Hub in Gurugram. The culinary fest is not only giving food lovers the chance to witness live cooking demos from the likes of Sanjeev Kapoor, Vikas Khanna, Amrita Raichand, Saransh Goila, Sarah Todd, Vikramjit Roy and Vicky Ratnani, among others, it is also offering a wide range of food experiences, from tea and wine tastings to live demos and cooking classes.

If cooking is not your thing and you would rather test your tastebuds with some Asian cuisine, the ongoing Asian Hawkers Market at Select Citywalk in Saket is the place to go to. With a slew of pan-Asian cuisine, you get to pick from, among others, Chinese, Korean and Singaporean food. There’s also an Asia-themed flea market and a bunch of live performances that will add to the flavour.

Celebrating zero waste

If you abhor food wastage, then Itsy Bitsy food festival is where you should head to. Ongoing in Mumbai, this festival not only celebrates food, but also highlights the need to reduce food wastage. In its second edition now, the festival is hosting 25 food brands, which are offering bite-sized portions of their regular menu priced between R50 and R150, reducing wastage and allowing people to try more dishes. What’s more, at the end of the festival, all surplus food will be donated to Robin Hood Army, an organisation that supplies leftover food from restaurants to the underprivileged. Besides food, you can also enjoy music performances by bands like The Bassic, Cityhaze, Across Second, Nyugen Trung, Ark n Toon, etc.
