The LiveLoveLaugh Foundation (LLL), a charitable trust founded in 2015, has launched its Corporate Mental Health & Well-Being Programme — an evidence-based initiative aimed at helping Indian organisations build mentally resilient workplaces.

The programme comes at a time of growing concern over employee well-being. According to a 2023 study by the McKinsey Health Institute, nearly 60% of Indian employees reported symptoms of burnout, while over half said they work under excessive pressure. These alarming figures highlight the need for structured, long-term solutions to workplace mental health.

Dr. Shyam Bhat, chairperson of LLL, said: “Corporate India must move beyond offering Employee Assistance Programs as a one-size-fits-all solution. Rather than relying on ad-hoc measures and annual engagement surveys, we need a systemic, data-driven approach that addresses the root causes of workplace mental health challenges. By focusing on awareness, reducing stigma, and using evidence-based insights, organisations can design meaningful interventions that truly shift outcomes.”

The financial impact of poor mental health is also significant. Deloitte estimated in 2022 that Indian businesses lose ₹1.1 lakh crore annually due to productivity losses linked to employee mental health issues.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Trustee of LLL and Chairperson of Biocon Group, said, “Mental health affects productivity, innovation, and overall business outcomes. Companies must foster psychological safety, open dialogue, and empathy. This is not just a moral imperative—it’s smart business.”

LLL’s CEO Anisha Padukone noted that the new initiative draws from years of research and on-ground experience. “We’ve spent a decade working across communities. It’s now time to bring the same focus to workplaces. Our structured program will help companies improve mental health metrics and contribute to broader policy reform.”

Pilot programs with several corporates revealed a shift in leadership attitudes and growing demand for targeted support. Despite this, most companies still rely on scattered and short-term efforts.

LLL’s new program seeks to change that by offering a comprehensive, research-led strategy to support mental well-being at work.
