Financial Express Online on Tuesday organised the second edition of the FE Healthcare Awards 2024. The first panel focused on ‘Healthcare landscape change, the new imperatives and the road ahead’.
The session included experts like Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO, NABH, Dr. K Madan Gopal, Advisor, National Health Systems Resource Center, MoHFW , GoI, Dr. Shirshendu Mukherjee, Mission Director, Grand Challenges India, BIRAC (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council), Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology.
The panel discussion was moderated by E Kumar Sharma, Deputy Editor, Financial Express – Digital.
During the session, Dr. Kochhar said that future pandemic is a reality. Meanwhile, Dr. Gopal said that addressing issues like Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) should be a priority. “There is a need for infrastructural investment…we are trying to increase the access to healthcare facilities through tele-medicine,” he said.
Dr. Gopal said that there is a need to focus on data and research. “Reducing the out-of-pocket expenditure is a priority for all the countries across the world,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mukherjee said that innovation is a critical angle in healthcare delivery. “From drug discovery to providing healthcare facility innovation is crucial,” he said.
Dr. Kochhar also highlighted that there needs to be an emphasis on preventive healthcare. “The way our young population is more susceptible to chronic diseases is worrisome,” he said.
The integrated workforce of healthcare professionals could play an pivotal role in improving accessibility to healthcare facilities, he said.
Additionally, Dr. Mukherjee revealed that BIRAC is focusing on creating measures to support healthcare startups.
