Coronavirus Latest news Today (March 11): The coronavirus pandemic is far from over. While several socio-economic indicators show pre-pandemic numbers, the latest data of Covid-19 infections show a steady surge across key states in North India. According to the official data by the Union Health Ministry, national capital Delhi has seen 63 cases of coronavirus as of March 7. This is the highest number of daily cases that the national capital has seen since May, 2023.
The official website – mygov.in/covid-19 – states that India has registered 1,158 active Covid-19 cases today. There is an increase of 31 cases in comparison with the data of last 24 hours. The March 7 data shows another worrying trend. The fortnightly numbers of Delhi also show a sharp spike. In the fortnight ending on March 7, Delhi saw 459 cases. This was way up from 191 in the fortnight before it and 73 in the last 15 days before that.
Apart from Delhi, country’s most-populous state – Uttar Pradesh has also seen an uptick in Covid-19 numbers. The official data till March 7 shows that in comparison with January 20 to 4 February week (when only 12 cases were recorded), the February 19 to March 5 week has seen an increase in daily coronavirus infections to 164.
Bihar has also seen the daily Covid-19 numbers going up in triple digits. Health Ministry data says Bihar reported 103 coronavirus cases till March 7. As per data from the health ministry, Rajasthan, where Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has tested positive, has experienced a surge in cases. In the past 15 days, the state has recorded 226 cases, a significant increase compared to 96 and 27 cases reported in the two previous two-week periods.
