More than two-thirds of companies globally are planning to deploy generative artificial intelligence tools to upgrade their cybersecurity solution within the next year, according to a survey by PwC. Gen AI tools can proactively detect vulnerability in the system and suggest methods of defense. Many cybersecurity solutions already include an AI-based prediction system that can identify threats and deploy preventive solutions without any human assistance.

“GenAI can help identify patterns, anomalies and indicators of compromise that elude traditional signature-based detection systems,” the survey noted, adding that platforms are licensing their large language models in tandem with their cybersecurity tools. Surpassing global counterparts, about 87% of Indian companies are planning to deploy generative AI tools for cybersecurity within the next 12 months. “GenAI tools can help reduce a disadvantage for cyber teams overwhelmed by the sheer number and complexity of human-led cyber attacks, both of which continually increase,” the PwC survey said.

The survey includes insights from 3,876 businesses globally, including 136 respondents from India. As per its findings, more than 90% of companies in India feel that gen AI will help them add new lines of business over the next year and personal use of gen AI tools by its employees will result in increased productivity. However, an overwhelming majority of 73% felt that the use of gen AI tools could also lead to “catastrophic cyber attacks”.

This, however, does not deter a majority of Indian companies to deploy gen AI tools in their business processes even without internal and external policy safeguards. About 85% of the Indian companies said they would be comfortable deploying gen AI tools even before having internal policies for data governance and quality.Besides threat prediction, gen AI tools and machine learning algorithms can soon recommend, validate and draft security policies and automate controls that are tailored to an organization’s threat profile, technologies and business objectives, the survey noted.
