Xiaomi has finally announced that its next flagship smartphone – the Mi MIX 2S – will be launched at an event scheduled for March 27 in China. The company made the announcement on Weibo, clearing the air around the launch of next Xiaomi flagship device rumoured to be held at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will be the successor to the Mi MIX 2 that was launched last year and is expected to borrow design cues from the iPhone X. It is also reported to be the first Xiaomi smartphone that will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is expected to launch initially in China and India, along with some European countries.
The Chinese tech giant on Sunday posted an image on Weibo that carried the official invite for the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S launch event. In addition, Donovan Sung, Xiaomi’s global spokesperson and product management director, shared the same image invite on Twitter announcing the launch set for March 27. The invite image shows that the smartphone will pack the latest Snapdragon 845 SoC along with a random number – 273741 – which is speculated to be the AnTuTu score of the smartphone. Apart from these, the image does not reveal anything else about the smartphone.
However, according to earlier reports, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is said to feature a 5.99-inch Quad-HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 8GB of RAM along with 256GB of internal storage, and 3400mAh battery. A recently leaked hands-on video featuring the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S hinted at a feature that is similar to the iPhone X swipe-up gesture to jump into the recent apps menu. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is also expected to sport the front camera on the top right corner, instead of the bottom right like Mi MIX and Mi MIX 2.
Moreover, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will come with advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) features that will work in accordance with the MIUI 9. The Android version on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is said to be Oreo, which will be a first for any MIUI 9-running smartphone. The smartphone will pack Sony IMX363 sensors that will bring features such as automatic HDR, chroma flash, and object recognition. An earlier report said that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S could also the company’s first and world’s second smartphone to come with the in-display fingerprint scanner similar to the one on the Vivo X20 Plus UD that was launched last month.
