People across the country right from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari and Agartala to Jaipur are all geared up to celebrate choti Diwali today. The festival, which falls a day before actual Diwali, is being celebrated with great fervour. While Lakshmi Puja and Ganesh Puja is done in some parts of India, Kali Puja is celebrated in West Bengal and other parts of the country. On Choti Diwali, people clean and decorate their homes and also make rangolis. They also light diyas in and near their homes so as to order to prevent evil energies. The day is also known as Roop Chaturdashi and Roop Chaudas. Many people apply paste made of sesame (til) oil, which is prepared with the help of sandalwood powder, turmeric, and milk cream.
