For Salman Khan's Sultan, the writing is on the wall, mat, if you think that is more appropriate. The movie has been in cinemas for as long as 21 days having been first released on July 6 (the time-span we have the data for) and now it is definitely not going anywhere in a hurry. In fact it has even stopped crawling and the people in power over these issues should do it a favour and lay it to rest peacefully. It is sad to see greatness reduced to a sorry state of affairs, but that is what is happening in cinemas right now. (Bollywood Hungama) -
Sultan collections have had a magnificent run through this 3 week run. From an extended weekend booster shot to a fantastic opening weekend and thereafter a top first week, Sultan box office collections have been on a virtually permanent high. Very few movies manage to stay aloft for so long and along the way it has become the number 2 movie in India displacing Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3. However, it needed a bigger third week, a much, much bigger one to protect itself from those who are coming up quickly at the back and at the same time try and give stiff competition to the No. 1 movie, which is PK. Now, Salman Khan finds that Rajinikanth's magnificent recent release Kabali is growing ever bigger in his rear-view mirror. It will most probably overtake the Bollywood star and slot into the second position and perhaps even put up a better challenge against PK. Three weeks is a long time and a film really has to be deep content-wise to appeal to a wide section of the people to make them keep surging into the cinemas. (Bollywood Hungama)

If the filmmakers are looking to bank on the current doping allegations that are roiling the Rio-bound Indian Olympic contingent and accusations are flying strong and fast, to extend the lifeline of Sultan in cinemas, then that is a long shot that they may as well abandon. A Salman Khan drawing a crore a day is clearly chicken feed and would look like a desperate attempt to cross the Rs 300 cr mark. That would leave Salman Khan stranded so close to this exclusive club, but what can you do, there is just so much that is possible and keeping Sultan in cinemas is an atrocity. (Bollywood Hungama)

Over the last 4 days, including weekend, the pickings have been poor indeed for Sultan. From Rs 3.81 cr on Saturday, Rs 5.14 cr on Sunday the take has fallen to Rs 1.30 cr and Rs 1.25 crore on day 21 (Tuesday). What are the chances of Sultan collections getting better over the weekend? Virtually nil. So, it is better if the filmmakers count their successes rather than fixate on a future that cannot be. And success the movie has seen plenty of. By the end of day 21, Sultan box office collections are at Rs 291.60 cr. With the rest of the revenues added to this humongous sum, the overall total rises as high as Rs 556.55 cr. Juxtapose this against the other figures, those of Sultan budget and see the profit angle: The movie budget was Rs 90 cr out of which the production cost was Rs 70 cr, while print and publicity added up to Rs 20 cr. As far screen count is concerned, Sultan was showcased on some 4,000 in India (5,100 screens globally). (Bollywood Hungama)
