Rajinikanth's Kabali box office collections: The take-off was as smooth as it could get, the trajectory was at a very steep angle and now that the flight has levelled off at rarerified heights, Thalaivar can see the nature of his achievements. With such figures roiling the movie markets, the Rs 500+ crore target is almost on the cusp of being achieved and Rs 600 cr thereafter. However, as can be seen in the Bollywood superstar Salman Khan case with Sultan box office collections, till a certain milestone is not crossed, it should not be recognised and also it must be recognised how difficult it is to go over the Rs 100 cr, Rs 200 cr, the Rs 300 cr, the Rs 400 cr, the Rs 500 cr and Rs 600 cr marks. At the moment, Salman Khan's Sultan collections are stuck in the Rs 290+ cr mark and unlikely to ever cross the Rs 300 cr major milestone. Rajinikanth has powered the collections so far and needs to just wait for all the laurels to fall in his lap, but it will not be easy from here.

Without a doubt Southern India is the driving force for Rajinikanth's Kabali. But that was expected all along. The worldwide interest was also more or less a given, but its numbers are limited. Abroad, almost every south Indian would have watched the movie to satisfy those Mother India pangs that are uniquely felt by Indians no matter where they are – in fact, these pangs go live as near as even Bhutan – Indians there just love to get nostalgic about their homeland and yearn for anything that is even remotely attached to India. And Rajinikanth and Kabali are as Made in India as anything can get! Of course, the setting is Malaysia in the film. For that matter, even if the setting of the movie was in the deepest African jungle, the movie would still have been Indian at heart. Very patriotic flavour indeed. And yes, patriotism sells, especially if you are abroad. (Bollywood Hungama)
At home there is no need for patriotic fervour and none is visible in the movie either. But the movie requires a big booster shot to its box office collections and the topmost target now is Rs 300 crore. Rajinikanth, who has has already broken his silence to thank fans, must be wondering whether he, or rather Kabali is really good enough to make him the No. 1 actor in India? (Bollywood Hungama) -
The jury is out and the answer for this will remain hidden for a while. Figuring fom the wider trends and the traffic at cinemas, the thinning crowds have indicated a fall in revenue but the enthusiasm of the crowds is as high as that on day 1. Even those who have watched the film once or twice, the response is joyous to behold. However, Rajinikanth needs Kabali to really power up the B.O. and generate collections in excess of around Rs 20 crore per day to take it into the next week with a momentum that will maintain its flight, or at least allow for a very gradual glide downwards, even as the collections bag balloons satisfyingly.
