Rajinikanth mania powered Kabali box office collections have been more than flying. Huge sums are being bandied about by the analysts, the industry as well as the filmmakers. The film has beaten the collections of Sultan, and all the other previous releases of almost all superstars – in fact some of the numbers being voiced are so wild that they would eclipse all the collections that most superstars in India ever earned – collectively! The only agreement is on the fact that Kabali was not able to beat the first day collection of Baahubali which came in at Rs 50 crore, while Rajinikanth bagged a couple of crore less with Kabali. Kabali has been in cinemas now for over three days and, after racing to Rs 150 crore over the opening weekend, Kabali has now marched straight into the Rs 200 crore club without a single stumble in the way, unless you call a Rs 48-crore take on day one as a stumble. Clearly not. (Kabali Poster)

The sensational trend has Kabali moving from one 'earth-shattering' number to the next. And the person who has been talking fantastic figures since day 1, producer S Thanu has revealed another set to the IndianExpress.com, saying that the movie has collected as much as Rs 400 crore! Before you blow a vein or something, let us clarify that he meant Rs 200 crore in box office collections and an equal amount by selling various rights to the movie before it was even released. Clearly overwhelmed by the response of the public and the collections, Dhanu said, “I will never forget these days in my life. This release has given me so much happiness. It has broken the collection records of Indian cinema in the last 100 years.” (AP)

With the profits rolling in from all territories, the filmmakers would not even be noticing the many bills that they paid while it was being made – it cost nearly Rs 100 crore. Out of that, as can be easily understood, the major share went to superstar Rajinikanth. He easily commanded as much as 60% of that figure, with much lesser amounts going to others. They will get their due in times to come simply because of the rub-off factor – they acted alongside Rajinikanth in Kabali and that means their star is up and they will command a huge premium for whatever project they deem worth taking up in the future. And what of the Kabali collection prediction. With so much action going on off-screen one can only imagine how much of it is going on on-screen. The crowds are not thinning. The opening weekend saw them stampeding to their seats on day 1, they were running in on days 2 and 3. As the working week commences, professional priorities will come to the fore, but this is not expected to dent the collections in any great manner. There will be a drop, but not a plunge. All those who are saying the film is slow or lacks quality, in-depth content just have to watch the happy faces in cinemas to know that nothing is likely to stop the movie running as successfully as it has been doing over the first few days.
