Kabali box office collections: The latest release from Rajinikanth looks to have made a major leap in the superstar's first day collections figure from what had happened a long time ago with his other release Robot. The actor has a mammoth following across the world and in India too, but as far as the Hindi market is concerned, he carries limited appeal – in the land of Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan, what do you expect! And this has nothing to do with the language barrier as the film is dubbed in Hindi. The southern stars are not able to break into this market as the appeal is not universal and the focus is on the South Indian audience living in the northern cities. (PTI)

Way back in 2010 Rajinikanth's then big release was Robot and it had earned as much as Rs 2 crore. This was the best a South Indian film had recorded till then, but Rana Daggubatti starrer Baahubali had notched up a take as high as Rs 5.15 crore on day 1, eventually entering the Rs 100 cr club. And now Kabali has been released in theaters in North India by Fox Studios with expectations of generating great business. According to Bollywood Hungama, the latest release by Rajinikanth in the Hindi market has managed box office collections of just about Rs 4 crore – it said that this is not the final figure and that it will be updated, but the likelihood of it being moved upward in any big way is not likely. How well it will fare in the near future is uncertain as the word-of-mouth booster shot is uncertain. Also, most of the south Indian community would most probably have seen the movie over the opening weekend itself, so the prospect of generating further traffic at the turnstiles would in any case be limited. However, stranger things have happened. Just check out what happened to Baahubali – it earned as much as Rs 22 cr over the opening weekend and caught the entire movie fraternity by surprise. Another extravaganza that would look to compete would be Kabali. (PTI)
