Travel in air-conditioned Mumbai local soon! After a long wait, Mumbaikars have reason to cheer as Indian Railways is all set to introduce the city's first AC local train from January 1, 2018. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the 'Make in India' AC trains have undergone extensive trials. For now, one AC train with around seven services will run on a daily basis on the Western Line. We take a look at the new AC trains and their salient features…get ready for a comfortable ride!

The fares of these suburban railway trains are expected to be on the lines of Delhi Metro. The fares are expected to be around 1.5 times the cost of first class tickets in the existing local trains, officials have said.

Aluminium composite panels have been used for interior paneling with concealed screws and extrusions at the joints.

The AC train will be able to attain a maximum speed of 110 kmph. The total seating capacity of the rake is 1028, while as many as 4936 people can stand in it, says ICF.

The AC EMU rake has a stainless steel body. The vestibule coaches will boast of electrically operated automatic sliding doors.

The AC train has been equipped with a passenger-talk back facility next to each doorway.
