Hamari Adhuri Kahani box office collections suffer day 1 setback as movie opened on a very dull note with just 20% occupancy rate in the morning shows. Emraan Hashmi, who has already suffered back to back nonstarters, desperately needs Hamari Adhuri Kahani to become a success. The movie also stars Vidya Balan. (Bollywood Hungama)

Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer Hamari Adhuri Kahani box office collections were restricted to just Rs 5.04 crore on day 1 in the domestic market. This was expected as the occupancy rate in theatres on Friday was truly miserable at just 20%, but even then this is shocking as it did not manage to get anywhere near double figures on day of release, which does not augur well for the weekend either. If we add the foreign collections, the total take rises to Rs 5.38 crore. Looks like, at the moment, the pairing of the lead actors has backfired. The Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan pairing, especially with a separate 'husband' thrown in did not appeal to the masses – the difference is that of between chalk and cheese, surely. While the movie may not have enthused many, the 'soul' saving grace of the film is in the form of its background music. (Bollywood Hungama)

The weekend for Hamari Adhuri Kahani box office collections was almost as bad as the the week day, with day 2 box office collections being just Rs 5.15 crore (Saturday) and on day 3 they moved up by Rs 6.30 crore (Sunday) for a total domestic take of Rs 16.49 crore. If it were not for the foreign Hamari Adhuri Kahani box office collections, the movie would have been in a real fix. As it turned out, the foreign take added substantially to the total, rising to Rs 21.81 crore. (Bollywood Hungama)

Hamari Adhuri Kahani Box Office collections: 5 points to ponder</br><br> 1. ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ is a movie which looks into the various aspects of the life of a woman whose husband is missing for years and the traditions that she has to follow in her married life. It is an account of events delivered by a husband through a diary left behind for an estranged son. Flashbacks are a dangerous thing and need perfection to enthrall the audiences. That kind of quality is sadly missing. 2. Despite having a huge 'star presence' in the form of Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan and Rajkumar Rao, the film simply fails to register in the mind. And the main reason for the same is its weak script that is combined with heavy melodrama, which is tough to digest in today's time. It's hard to believe that Mahesh Bhatt who has written this script after a long time is stuck in such a time warp. It is indeed even more shocking that Hamari Adhuri Kahani comes from the same filmmaker who gave back to back hits like Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain. But, in the case of Hamari Adhuri Kahani, one can't help but blame its poor script and direction. Despite the fact that the film does have its share of gripping moments, in totality, the film seems to be a letdown. The film's characters are half baked and operate on some bizarre logic which makes you laugh after a point! There is also barely any build up for Emraan and Vidya's love story. Eventually, you just don't feel anything for any of the characters! 3. As far as the performances by the trio is concerned, while Emraan does put up a strong act as the protective, caring and sensitive lover, it is his eyes that do most of the talking, but Vidya Balan, despite being such a talented actress, seems to be wasted in Hamari Adhuri Kahani There are moments which make you feel the pain and the agony that her character is going through, but looking at her character cry helplessly after every few minutes makes you immune to her pain. Rajkumar Rao, on the other hand, has a small role and will be best remembered for his howls and shouts. 4. The dialogues done by the Bhatt camp regular Shagufta Rafique are so outdated that it makes you wonder how disconnected they are from the today's time. One has to also say that the film's editing (Devendra Murdeshwar) is not watertight, which could have acted as a saving grace for the film. 5. Despite Hamari Adhuri Kahani being dubbed 'soulful', yet that very essence is missing in its music (Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon, Ami Mishra). However, the 'soul' saving grace of the film is in the form of its background music (Raju Singh), which helps to keep you hooked to the proceedings on the screen. The DoP (Vishnu Rao) has done a decent job. On the whole, Hamari Adhuri Kahani is definitely very 'adhuri' on entertainment value.
