Mumbai witnessed an unprecedented early onset of the southwest monsoon, arriving 16 days ahead of schedule, marking the city’s earliest monsoon since 1950, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The seasonal rains typically reach Mumbai by June 11, but this year, showers drenched the city on May 27.

One of the most notable impacts was on the newly inaugurated underground Aqua Line metro. Heavy rainfall led to waterlogging at Acharya Atre Chowk station, forcing the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) to suspend services between Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli.
