The hype over Renault Kwid is unabated since it was first revealed just days ago. The reason is not that difficult to find either. The Renault Kwid has stolen a march on all its rivals, including Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai and it is yet to hit the road in India in the hands of buyers. The reason has more to do than just with the rock bottom price of under Rs 2.57 lakh. Clearly, the interest generated by the car in India has transcended all barriers. We take this opportunity to show exactly why the Renault Kwid is stealing so many hearts even though very few people have got the opportunity to see its physical avatar. Renault itself called the Kwid a ‘game changer’ during the unveil. Perhaps, that is exactly what it will turn out to be. and here we present the top 10 reasons that are driving the Renault Kwid hype. After that decide for yourself whether there is substance in it or it is just hyperbole: (CarDekho)

By CarDekho
1. With the Renault Kwid, the French carmaker has been able to deliver exactly what the car-buying public wants and that too at a compelling starting price point of Rs 2.57 lakh. (CarDekho) -
2. The Renault Kwid comes under the small car segment, but looking at it, you would be left scratching your head. Why? Because it looks big from the outside and feels bigger still from the inside. The Kwid isn’t your conventional looking A segment hatchback. It is something that has oodles of presence and an authoritative stance. A stance, that not many hatchbacks can boast off. The Kwid looks butch, rugged and a lot more masculine. Certainly, this is something that Indian carbuyers would appreciate – getting cramped in a small cabin is not pleasant. (CarDekho)

3. The Renault Kwid has done to the Indian car market, which no other car, barring the old Maruti 800, has been able to do – threaten to upstage the norms and trends of the small car segment and raise expectations of consumers on which the rest of the carmakers will have to deliver. (CarDekho)

4. Under the hood too Renault Kwid has made a stellar attempt to deliver an ‘above-class’ engine. A very powerful set of specs with an 800cc engine that churns out 54bhp power along with 74Nm torque is on offer and this is always going to be more than reasonable figures to do the job expected of it. 5. There are a lot of features that would appeal to customers including a touchscreen infotainment system which would make Renault Kwid the first in its class to offer this package. The infotainment system, or the ‘MediaNAV’ as Renault calls it, is available on the top-spec RXT trim. Needless to say, the system is a straight lift from the much bigger; and not to mention much more expensive, Duster. It supports USB and AUX inputs and can take calls or play music from your phone as well. It also gets navigation and just like the Duster, the infotainment system is a breeze to use. You get just two speakers with the system and the audio quality is just about average. There is also be air conditioning controls and a digital instrument cluster that looks quite sporty and spunky. There are plenty of accessories as well for the users to choose from that would add to the external and internal aesthetics of the car. (CarDekho)

6. The Renault Kwid steering wheel itself looks ‘classy’. The steering wheel is set at a neutral angle and it shouldn’t really be a problem for majority of the masses. The wheel itself is a nice and chunky three spoke unit and feels nice to hold. The steering is on the heavier side, but more on that later. (CarDekho)

7. The Renault Kwid was amongst the most awaited launches of 2015 due to many factors like its SUV like styling, competitive price and a great mileage of 25.17 Kmpl. (CarDekho)

8. Rivaling the top-selling Alto 800 is no easy task, but Renault Kwid seems to be well prepared with the segment’s first touchscreen infotainment system, a sporty all-digital instrument cluster and a wide range of add-on of accessories. (CarDekho)

9. The Renault Kwid rear has a simple design housing a large tail-gate flanked by large tail-lamps. There are no cuts or creases here. When viewed dead on, the Kwid does seem to have a voluptuous derriere. While Renault could’ve certainly jazzed up the rear a little bit, the overall design is a welcome change. If I had to describe the exteriors in a word, it’d be ‘innovative’. It really takes a lot to make an average hatchback stand out in the crowd and Renault seems to have pulled that off nicely. 10. The Renault Kwid wheelbase is a healthy 2422mm, a good 58mm more than the Alto800. This does free up a lot of space inside the car, especially at the rear bench. The rear bench is designed for three people, although we’d take that with a pinch of salt. While two passengers can sit comfortably at the rear, the third will make things rather uncomfortable – jostling for shoulder space with the other two occupants. (CarDekho)
