After Sushma Swaraj speech, Pakistan calls off talks with India </br><br> Ending the suspense, Pakistan called off the Indo-Pak NSA-level talks, hours after India made it clear that discussions on Kashmir and a meeting with separatists will not be acceptable. "Pakistan reiterates that the scheduled NSA level talks cannot be held on the basis of the preconditions set by India," a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Office said. This came in the wake of External Affairs Minsiter Sushma Swaraj saying, "If Pakistan NSA wants to come he is welcome. But talks will only be on terrorism – there will be no talks on Kashmir." Singh, a former NSG commando fought terrorist during the 26/11 attack, will be the second AAP MLA to join the OROP protest after Bijwasan MLA Col Devendra Sehrawat. "Commando (Singh) will join the protesters at Jantar Mantar on August 24," said his aide after his bail. Singh's joining the OROP protest against the Narendra Modi government assumes significance given his arrest and AAP's charge that its legislators are being targeted at the behest of the Centre. Hema Malini was being manoeuvred through the crowd by her security, when the BJP leader noticed two young boys caught in the frenzy. She immediately stepped in and rescued the children, her close aide Mitul Pathak said. Had she not helped them, the boys could have been hurt, he said. The Mathura MP was addressing a gathering of around 2,000 people. "We want to hold the rally (on August 25) peacefully, but if they (state government or police) try to stop us, we will not remain silent. If violence happens, the government and the police will be responsible for that," Hardik, convener of 'Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti', said. The 23-year-old Hardik Patel is spearheading the agitations by Patels who are demanding reservation in government jobs and education under OBC quota. Hardik said only the writ of Patels runs large in Gujarat and that the community decides who assumes power in the state. All the four separatist leaders were put under house arrest in the capital, official sources said. Lone, who is the executive member of moderate faction of Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, was stopped at the ladder of the aircraft as he deplaned and was informed that he was under detention and would remain confined to his rented accommodation in South Delhi, the sources said. Launching a membership drive in the state yesterday, party leader and Jalandhar Zonal Supervisor Rajiv Chaudhary said the drive has been started keeping in mind state Assembly elections scheduled in 2017. "The membership drive will continue till September 30. The aim is to enrol 25 lakh new members with 1 lakh members to be enrolled everyday," he said. According to a dossier prepared by India to be handed over to Pakistan, there are nine places where Dawood Ibrahim, who is known to frequently change his locations, stays in Pakistan. The new residence of Dawood "was purchased in Sept, 2013 and is located near the hospital where medical treatment could be provided to Dawood whenever required. Keep teen girls in school to curb population: UN official </br><br> The head of the UN Population Fund says the agency's "new mantra" is to keep girls in school until age 18 "in every nook and cranny of the world" as a key means of slowing population growth. The UN expects the world's population to reach 8.5 billion by 2030 and 9.7 billion by 2050. Agency chief Babatunde Osotimehin says women tend to have fewer children if their first one is born after they've turned 18.
