After introducing ‘unskippable ads’, YouTube seems to have lost access to the ‘reaction/like’ button.  Reportedly,  the thumbs up icon under the videos has been disappearing.

Users complained of two issues. They are ‘thumbs up icon not showing on the like button,’ and ‘thumbs up icon disappearing after liking a video.’

A blank ‘Reaction!’

It looks like that the ‘like’ button still works to register a like on the video. However,  it may show you a blank space once you tap on it.

When asked about the glitch, “Rest assured, whether or not the icon is showing, the video is still receiving the like!,” YouTube explained.

The technical glitch seems to have bothered users, especially content creators on  YouTube as they were not able to keep a track of the number of people liking their content. The issue has been faced by many and on various browsers.  YouTube seems to have assured that it is looking into the issue as the like button “isn’t working as intended”.

Fixing the ‘Reaction!’

The video sharing platform has clarified about the issue in a support page that was published on Tuesday. However, it denied the complexity of the situation by saying that “the issue is being faced only on videos on the web and not on mobile.”

Reportedly, it is not clear when the issue will be resolved. YouTube explained that they will initiate a follow up on the support page when they have an update. Although likes on the videos available on the platform still get registered. Additionally the icon seems to be no longer visible after tapping, eventually leaving an empty space.

Early reports had suggested that Reddit users also faced a similar issue a few months ago and have been sharing about it.
