On October 15 in an official blog, YouTube updated that it will be bringing new updates for its users. This includes a new option for playback speed, collaborative playlists, badges and an upgraded mini-player.
YouTube brings a bunch of updates
So, what do these updates mean to you? Let’s start with the new playback option. Earlier you could only increase the playback speed upto 0.25X. But now you can speed up or slow down things by 0.5x. Sounds fun right! YouTube will also add badges on the YouTube Music app and YouTube. This will help content creators to engage more with their community: The first set includes two badges. These are ‘correctly completed a quiz,’ and ‘first batch of paid members’.
Next you got a new collaborative space for creating playlists with your friends. A cool space to exchange songs. You will get a QR code or link for a playlist that can be shared with your friends and family. In addition to this you can also add your own pic as a thumbnail. You can also use YouTube’s GenAI tool to create a thumbnail according to your imagination.
YouTube will also bring some updates for its mobile app. Usually the thumbnails and texts present at the display of YouTube are quite small. Now, the font size and the thumbnails will get a bigger size. You can now get better visibility while watching videos in both portrait and landscape mode. Please note that as of now this feature is only available for Android. The company plans to bring it to iOS users soon.

Apart from the above mentioned updates, YouTube will also redesign its ‘mini-window,’player. Earlier the ‘mini-window’ was neither movable nor adjustable. Now you can do both. So, you can continue to scroll and watch videos at the same time. Additionally, the YouTube app for Tv also gets an upgraded user interface (UI). Also the sleep timer feature will be extended to all users. Initially during its launch in August it was only available for paid users.
Furthermore, the company will add the feature to vote on videos. This can allow collaborators and users to vote for their favorite video. Additionally, creators could also be able to use this feature to get feedback on videos through a playlist. Moreover, it will help them to get an idea which video is liked more. Then they can use that concept to make similar videos and gain more subscribers. As of now, this feature is expected to come by the end of this, as speculations suggest.
