Search engine giant Google today honoured Ustad Bismillah Khan with a doodle on his 102nd birth anniversary. He was born on March 21, 2016, in Dumraon, Bihar in the family of musicians. Ustad Bismillah Khan almost single-handedly popularised the shahnai as a classical instrument. He had won a number of awards including Bharat Ratna (2001), Padma Vibhushan (1980), Padma Bhushan (1968), Padma Shri (1961), Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1956) among several others
Ustad Bismillah Khan was popular not only in India but across the globe. It can almost be said safely that he and his shehnai were almost synonyms to each other. He had also performed on the eve of India’s first Republic day on January 26 1950. The great maestro passed away on August 21, 2006, in Varanasi following cardiac arrest.
Earlier on March 14, Google celebrated Pi Day by dedicating doodle to mathematical constant Pi. it was recognised 30 years ago by physicist Larry Shaw in 1988. The day is celebrated with a piece of their favourite pie to honour the mathematical constant which looks like the delicious dessert.
Pi symbolises ratio between a circle’s circumference to diameter and the constant is fundamental to a number of mathematical fields.
The credit of Pi Day celebration goes to Prof Larry as it was he who started the whole thing in 1988. In order to make the mathematical constants more interesting, he appealing to the public with the help of this. The US House of Representatives in 2009 passed a resolution in support of officially designating March 14 as Pi Day, Forbes report said earlier.
The Google doodle on March 12 had celebrated the 180th birthday of British chemist Sir William Henry Perkin. Born on March 12, 1838, William Henry Perhe kin is remembered for discovering“mauveine,” the first synthetic dye. He had made the discovery wat the age of 18 years.
