Amidst rising cyber crimes, WhatsApp has come up with new safety measures. WhatsApp has been the most used messaging platform. We share so much content through this platform. From sharing voice messages to personal details, it has access to everything. But there have been several scams being initiated through this platform. So, in order to stop this the messaging platform will now allow you to get information about any link (received/shared) on Google. Here’s a detailed lo how this safety feature will work.
WhatsApp to bring ‘Link verification’
As reported by WABetaInfo, a recent beta of WhatsApp for Android will allow users to get link information on Google. With the updated WhatsApp beta version 2.24.22.19, you can easily verify the authenticity of any link shared individually or within group chats. So, how does this feature work? According to a screenshot shared, you need to long press on the link you want to know about. After that you will get an option to search for the details of the link. This option is named ‘Get link info on Google’ tab allows you to search for the relevant information about the selected link/URL.
Many reports suggest that scammers/ fraudsters are using WhatsApp for executing scams. This mainly includes money laundering, identity theft or secretly getting access to the user’s device. But how do such scams take place? So, let’s take an example. Suppose you receive a link in your WhatsApp. Usually such links come up with an urgent message, like asking to update your KYC details. After seeing the urgency you mostly end up clicking on the link and fill in your personal details. Now, that’s the trap. The moment you fill in the details, scammers get access to the details. These then later on get used for executing scams.
The solution now? So, with the updated WhatsApp feature you can check the authenticity of the link. You will eventually be able to find out if the link is safe and not malicious. So, now you don’t need to open the link to get information about it. You can let Google do the background check for you.
Other updates
In other news, WhatsApp had recently come up with a new personalized user experience. WhatsApp will bring a feature that allows you to create and share sticker packs. The new feature was found in development on the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.22.13 update.
But what does this feature mean to you? This feature will allow you to create sticker packs and then share them all organized in a folder. However, as of now the feature is still at a Beta testing phase. You can get the updates in the Google Play Beta programme.
