WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app, is rolling out a new feature that allows users to reply to status updates using avatars. This feature is currently available to beta testers on both Android and iOS, and is expected to be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks, reports WaBetaInfo.

“With this feature, WhatsApp aims to improve engagement with status updates by providing users with an additional tool to engage with their contacts, making replying to status updates even more interactive,” states the report.

Currently, users are limited to using 8 emojis for regular reactions, but this new feature expands the options by providing a set of 8 available avatars. The report notes that some beta testers can also use animated versions of these avatars to reply to status updates. This feature is available on both WhatsApp beta for Android and WhatsApp beta for iOS.

The feature is available to beta testers who install the latest versions of WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS and will roll out to more users in the coming days.

To use this feature, users simply need to tap on the avatar icon below the status update they want to reply to. They will then be able to select one of their avatars to use in their reply. Avatars can be customised to look like the user, or they can choose from a variety of pre-made avatars.

Once the user has selected an avatar, they can type in their reply and send it.
