WhatsApp has further expanded its partnership with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) by introducing a metro card recharge feature on its platform. The new feature follows last year’s successful implementation of the QR ticketing system across all DMRC routes, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro. The newly introduced metro card recharge service will be available to commuters across the Delhi NCR region, allowing users to conveniently top up their metro cards through WhatsApp.
This new feature integrates seamlessly with the existing ticketing and chatbot services provided by WhatsApp. Commuters can access the metro card recharge service by sending a simple ‘Hi’ to +91 9650855800 or by scanning a QR code. Once connected, users can recharge their metro cards using a variety of payment methods, including UPI, debit cards, and credit cards. The service is available in both English and Hindi for a wider accessibility of the feature.
Ravi Garg, director of Business Messaging at Meta in India, highlighted the significance of this development. “Introducing metro pass recharge via WhatsApp will revolutionize the commuting experience for everyday commuters who use the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Offering various payment methods to recharge the card, this integration builds on the success of our previously introduced QR ticketing systems bringing us one step closer to our goal of simplifying transit for millions of people across the NCR region,” Garg stated.
For users of both Android and iOS devices, quick access to the chatbot service is available through the payments section on WhatsApp. The service, powered by PeLocal, is designed to support passengers across all lines of the Delhi National Capital Region, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro.
The integration of WhatsApp into public transport services has not been limited to Delhi. In recent months, other major cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Nagpur, and Pune, have also adopted WhatsApp-based solutions to enhance their transit services.
