The freshly minted Redmi Note 13 series is HyperOS ready, Xiaomi has confirmed. The announcement was made during the launch event of the Redmi Note 13, Redmi Note 13 Pro, and Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, in India. Though, there is no word on when exactly the new update is coming to these devices. Xiaomi simply said it’s “coming soon”.

The Note 13 series is shipping with the older Android 13 based MIUI 14 which is a bit disappointing since the line-up was originally launched in September last year kicking off with Xiaomi’s home market. The Redmi Note 13, Note 13 Pro, and Note 13 Pro Plus are launching in more markets globally on January 15. Maybe we’ll get to hear more about the update then but as things stand, in India, Redmi Note 13 series buyers will have to wait.

Xiaomi is beginning HyperOS roll-out in India with two devices, the 13 Pro and Pad 6, and the update is expected to arrive as soon as this month itself. The new “OS” takes MIUI and puts it on overdrive mode with a big focus on seamless connectivity regardless of the Xiaomi device you’re using in addition to making everything nicer and smoother than before. HyperOS is also billed to be lighter on storage and made in a way to increase shelf life of all the devices it would work with. Then there are the visual changes that will allow for more granular customization including more believable depth effect in wallpapers and more.

Needless to say, the update is duly awaited. Spin-off Poco in fact has beaten Xiaomi by bringing HyperOS to Poco F5 users in India first and though it is only available for beta testers, it won’t be long before it is made more broadly available for more users.

As for the Redmi Note 13 series, there is little doubt that the line-up packs good hardware, including a bunch of aspirational features like IP68 rating and makes it available at relatively mainstream pricing, but software remains a sore point for these phones. Hopefully, Xiaomi will have a clearer update soon.
