Prasar Bharati, India’s national public broadcaster, has launched its new OTT (Over-the-Top) platform, Waves as it taps this rapidly growing entertainment market.  The platform was officially launched by Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The new OTT platform is designed to cater to the growing demand for digital content, combining iconic shows, new films, educational programs, and interactive entertainment for a wide audience.

Content offerings on Waves

Waves offers  content across 12 languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, Marathi, and Assamese. The platform covers genres like infotainment, education, gaming, and online shopping. Key offerings include:

  • 65 live TV channels across different categories like news, sports, music, and entertainment.
  • Video-on-demand (VOD) services featuring a wide range of films and TV shows.
  • Free-to-play gaming and radio streaming.
  • Integration with ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) for online shopping.

The platform also offers exclusive screenings of student films, along with content from National Creator Awardees like Kamiya Jani, Shraddha Sharma, and RJ Raunac.

Waves subscription plans

Waves offers multiple subscription options catering to different needs:

  • Platinum Plan: Rs 999/year for Ultra HD streaming, access to all content, and streaming on up to 4 devices.
  • Diamond Plan: Rs 350/year for HD content, access to live TV, movies, and radio. It can be used on up to 2 devices.
  • Gold Plan: Rs 30/month for Standard Definition content, available on one device with live TV and radio access.

Key features and benefits

Apart from traditional entertainment, Waves focuses on live events such as the Prabhu Shriram Lalla Aarti LIVE from Ayodhya and the monthly Mann Ki Baat by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It will also stream international events like the US Premier League Cricket Tournament starting from November 22, 2024.

The platform is also making strides in the field of cybersecurity awareness, with daily video messages in partnership with CDAC, MeitY. Other noteworthy shows include Fauji 2.0, Kicking Balls, and Monkey King: The Hero is Back.

The user interface of Waves is designed to be simple and intuitive, ensuring a seamless streaming experience across multiple devices.

Availability and access

Waves is available for download on both Google Play Store (for Android users) and the Apple App Store (for iOS devices). However, users must visit the website Waves.pb for making payments, as the app currently does not support direct subscription payments.
