Perplexity AI, in a bid to stay ahead of the competitors and AI Models like ChatGPT and Grok, has launched an Email assistant. The email assistant is very useful for individuals who receive a lot of e-mails and use the email apps for work. Perplexity AI’s email assistant will help in decluttering of inboxes and organise emails in a better manner using AI. Importantly, the new email assistant feature is exclusive for Perplexity Max users. Perplexity has designed the assistant to act as a personal assistant that helps people in drafting responses to emails, draft new emails, organising meetings and more.

What is Perplexity Email Assistant?

The Email Assistant is designed as an AI-driven productivity tool that integrates directly with users’ email accounts. Unlike basic email automation tools, it focuses on replicating a personal assistant’s role, handling not just sorting and reminders but also adapting to the user’s communication style and workflow.

Perplexity notes that the assistant can prioritise emails, summarise conversations, and even answer specific queries about the inbox. For example, a user can ask, “What emails should I prioritise before my board meeting?” or “Summarize all messages about the Q4 budget.”

How it works?

Email Assistant connects to Gmail and Outlook accounts and functions across both desktop and mobile devices. Users activate it by emailing assistant@perplexity.com from their registered inbox, after which the AI begins assisting with daily communication.

It can be included in conversations by simply CC’ing the assistant in ongoing threads. From there, it drafts replies, proposes meeting times based on calendar preferences, and manages follow-ups with contacts while allowing users to maintain final control.

The tool also leverages smart labelling, automatically classifying messages into actionable categories such as completed tasks, items needing action, or those requiring urgent attention.

Supported email services?

Currently, Perplexity Email Assistant supports two of the most widely used services—Gmail and Outlook. This coverage ensures compatibility for both individual and enterprise-level users. Expansion to other platforms has not yet been confirmed.

Security and privacy?

Perplexity emphasises that the assistant is compliant with SOC 2 and GDPR standards, and it does not train on personal user data. This reassurance comes amid growing concerns about AI tools handling sensitive communication data.

The Email Assistant follows Perplexity’s earlier launch of Comet and Comet Max Assistant, which saw strong adoption among subscribers. According to the company, the new offering builds on that success by extending AI capabilities into email, a key area of daily professional life.
