The OnePlus 13 and 13R are two flagship phones vying for buyer’s attention across two very different price points. The 13 has a starting price of Rs 69,999. The 13R starts at Rs 42,999. The price difference is significant. For Rs 27,000 more, the 13 obviously gets you a more powerful phone with better cameras, but how far behind is the 13R? Wouldn’t you want to find out?
If you do, then you’ve come to the right place. The 13 and 13R offer stupendous value at their respective price point but there are some big differences, that given your budget, can be a deal maker or breaker. Hopefully, this helps clear some of the confusion, and make buying your next smartphone, a bit easier.
Here’s a 13-point quick review of the OnePlus 13 series to see how the OnePlus 13 and 13R stack up against each other.
- Design: The OnePlus 13, being the more premium smartphone of the lot, bags a more aesthetically pleasing design with subtle curves and a vegan leather option. The 13R has a flatter chassis.
- Build: The 13 is technically more durable with its “ceramic guard” screen and IP69 rating that exists alongside IP68. The 13R is made of glass and metal. The glass used is Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The 13R is only rated IP65.
- Display: Both phones are using the same display technology which is LTPO AMOLED which can top 4500 nits in HDR (1600 nits in high brightness mode or HBM). Up to Dolby Vision is supported. Both panels can refresh at up to 120 times per second. Now, the differences. The 13’s screen is taller at 6.82-inch, is micro-curved and has a higher resolution of 1440p or 2K. The 13R has a 6.78-inch flat display with a 1.5K or FHD+ resolution.
- Biometrics: The 13 has an ultrasonic fingerprint reader while the 13R gets optical.
- Processor: The 13 comes with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite while the 13R has the one-generation-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
- Memory: The OnePlus 13 comes in three memory configurations, 12GB, 16GB and 24GB. Storage options are as follows: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The OnePlus 13R is available in two trims: 12/256GB and 16/512GB. Storage expansion is not available. Both 13 and 13R use UFS4.0 storage and LPDDR5X RAM.
- Software: The OnePlus 13 and 13R run the latest OxygenOS 15 software based on Android 15. Both smartphones are guaranteed to get four major OS and six years of security updates.
- Battery: The OnePlus 13 and 13R both come with a 6,000 mAh battery.
- Charging: The 13 supports 100W fast wired and 50W wireless charging. The 13R tops out at 80W wired.
- Connectivity: Both phones have USB Type-C ports but only the 13 supports faster 3.2 Gen 1 speeds. The 13R is only USB2.0.
- Rear camera: The OnePlus 13 naturally has a more powerful triple camera system which is a combination of a trio of 50-megapixel sensors behind f/1.6 wide, f/2.6 3x periscope telephoto and f/2.0 ultrawide. They are tuned by Hasselblad. The 13 can record 8K videos at up to 30fps and 4K at up to 60fps. The 13R gets a triple rear setup too with a 50MP f/1.8 wide, another 50MP f/2.0 2x telephoto and 8MP f/2.2 ultrawide. Video recording goes up to 4K@60fps.
- Front camera: The OnePlus 13 has a 32MP camera for selfies, while the 13R has a 16MP. The 13’s front camera can record 4K@60fps, the 13R’s can do only 1080p@30fps.
- Prices: The OnePlus 13 comes in a choice of 12/256GB, 16/512GB and 24/1TB at Rs 69,999, Rs 76,999, and Rs 89,999, respectively. The OnePlus 13R comes in 12/256GB and 16/512GB for Rs 42,999 and Rs 49,999.
