OnePlus today revealed a couple of key core technologies coming to the upcoming OnePlus 12R ahead of the phone’s global unveiling on January 23, 2024. The Chinese smartphone major has announced that the 12R will feature the biggest battery on any OnePlus phone to date while boasting of a wicked fast display capable of moving between the “widest ever range of refresh rates.” Back home, the OnePlus Ace 3 —which is nothing but the 12R under a different name— has been confirmed to come rocking Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. And so, slowly but surely, the 11R successor has started to take shape followed by an earlier announcement that revealed its full design.
In a press release sent out to the media, OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 12R will come with a “fourth generation LTPO 120Hz ProXDR display”— a technology it claims is only available on the 12R at the time of writing— allowing for a faster and more energy efficient switching between a wide range of stops including but not limited to 90 and 72Hz. OnePlus is also promising a bigger battery of the tune of 5,500mAh capacity, the biggest on any OnePlus phone ever released including the OnePlus 12. The OnePlus 11R itself came with a 5,000mAh and so, the upgrade is much appreciated. There will be SuperVOOC charging, though OnePlus doesn’t mention how fast.
The design of the OnePlus 12R was recently unveiled with aesthetics mostly in line with the 12. OnePlus will offer it in a choice of blue and gray. The Ace 3, which is launching in China on January 4, will come in one addition bronze colour-way. Otherwise, it is expected to be the same phone unless OnePlus a rabbit out of its hat or something. The China-bound Ace 3 is getting up to 16GB of RAM, 1TB storage, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at the helm, much in line with rumour mills doing the rounds of the Internet. Considering that the 11R was such great value, the 12R will obviously have some big shoes to fill. Watch this space for more updates.
