The next-gen iPhone 17 series is just around the corner, and prior to Apple making the big announcements, leaks and rumours have revealed almost everything about these phones. The iPhone 17 series, which is expected to spawn the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will also introduce a slim new iPhone 17 Air, replacing the iPhone 16 Plus. With new chipsets and camera sensors, this year’s iPhone 17 series could be just what you have been waiting for.

While the price is what most of you will be interested in, the iPhone 17 series also brings a series of other developments in various related fields, including its manufacturing. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to bring huge changes to the camera as well as the raw performance. The iPhone 17 Air is said to be the thinnest iPhone ever made, thus making it a true visual spectacle.

Hence, as anticipation builds for Apple’s annual September event, let’s take a look at everything we know about the upcoming iPhone 17 series.

iPhone 17 series: Design updates

Probably the most notable change with the iPhone 17 series is the redesigned exterior, especially for the Pro models. Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature a new aluminium and glass build, moving away from the titanium frame of previous generations. Leaks also point to a massive rectangular new camera bar on the rear, a significant departure from the classic square camera bump.

Meanwhile, the new iPhone 17 Air is generating anticipation for its ultra-thin design, rumoured to be just 5.5mm thick, making it the slimmest iPhone to date. The vanilla iPhone 17, however, will continue to look the same as the iPhone 16.

iPhone 17 series: Performance upgrades

Under the hood, all iPhone 17 models are expected to receive a massive performance boost. The standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will likely be powered by the new A19 chip, while the Pro variants will get the more powerful A19 Pro. Both Pro models are rumoured to pack 12GB of RAM, ensuring superior multitasking capabilities and potentially more on-device Apple Intelligence features. With rumours of Gemini powering Siri in the future, the iPhone will need more RAM than ever. All the models are likely to release with the stable version of iOS 26.

iPhone 17 series: Camera upgrades

The camera system is another area of significant improvement. All four new iPhones are expected to feature a 24MP front-facing camera, a major leap from the current 12MP sensor. At the high end, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to boast a triple 48MP camera system, including a new 48MP periscope telephoto lens with up to 8x optical zoom. This would mark the first time an iPhone has featured three 48MP cameras, including the main and ultrawide shooters.

Miscellaneous upgrades

A key upgrade across the entire lineup is the adoption of a 120Hz ProMotion high refresh rate display, a feature previously exclusive to the Pro models. This shall bring smoother scrolling and enhanced visuals to all iPhone 17 users. The phones are also expected to ship with iOS 26, which will introduce new AI-powered features for a smarter user experience.

iPhone 17 expected price

Based on the rumours, it is expected that the iPhone 17 could start around $899 in the US, with the new iPhone 17 Air coming in at a slightly higher $999. The premium iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models are rumoured to start at $1,299 and $1,799, respectively.

In India, however, the local manufacturing of the iPhone 17 in India could keep the starting price at Rs 79,999 for the base variant, unless Apple decides to go with 256GB of storage as standard. The iPhone 17 Air and Pro variants could command a higher premium for their extras over the standard model.
