Apple launched the iPhone 16 series for global markets, India included, at its fall event on Monday, September 9. The annual refresh spawns four new models, per usual. These are the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple claims they are the first iPhones built from ground up to leverage Apple Intelligence, but core AI features won’t be available at launch. Rather, they will come later through software update.
On the face of it, these new iPhones do look like, new iPhones. They iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have new vertically aligned cameras on the back and come in more “vibrant” colours. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have bigger screens and enhanced camera capabilities. The 3nm A18 chip inside the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus is designed for power and efficiency. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max obviously have an even more powerful A18 Pro. The upgrades are both significant and useful.
And so, if you’re wondering if the prices have gone up, too, to justify them, you’re not alone. Also, if you were waiting to buy a new iPhone and—by any chance—if the iPhone 16 series has caught your attention, we are happy to report that Apple hasn’t bumped up the prices, keeping things mostly consistent with last year.
iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus full India prices
The iPhone 16 comes in a choice of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB at a price of Rs 79,900, Rs 89,900, Rs 1,09,900, respectively. The iPhone 16 Plus which has the same memory configurations, is priced at Rs 89,900, Rs 99,900, Rs 1,11,900, respectively.

That’s essentially the same price that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were launched at. But Apple did drop their prices by Rs 300 recently after India moved to reduce import duties on smartphones. Evidently, the rule doesn’t apply to the new iPhones yet, or maybe they just cost more to make which is the only plausible explanation.
iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max full India prices
But moving on, the iPhone 16 Pro comes in as many as four memory variants—128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. There were reports that said Apple might start with 256GB this year and discontinue the 128GB model on the 16 Pro, but clearly, they were wrong. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at Rs 1,19,900 which is much cheaper than what the iPhone 15 Pro did at launch (Rs 1,34,900). The 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB models have been priced at Rs 1,29,900, Rs 1,49,900, Rs 1,69,900.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max, which comes in a choice of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, is also cheaper than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, at Rs 1,44,900, Rs 1,64,900, Rs 1,84,900.
iPhone 16 series availability
The iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max will be available for buying from September 20 with pre-order starting a week before, on September 13.
iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus price drop
As is usually the case, Apple has lowered the prices of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus after the launch of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. The iPhone 15 now starts at Rs 69,900 for 128GB of storage while the 256GB and 512GB models cost Rs 79,900 and Rs 99,900. The iPhone 15 Plus is Rs 79,900 for 128GB, Rs 89,900 for 256GB and Rs 1,09,900 for 512GB. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus also have a new price with the former starting at Rs 59,900 and latter at Rs 69,900. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have been discontinued.
