iPhone 16 Pro Max is set to hit the market tomorrow, but a recent lab test raises questions about its charging capabilities. While certification data previously suggested that the new iPhone 16 lineup could support charging speeds of up to 45W, a test conducted by Chinese media outlet iFanr indicates that the iPhone 16 Pro Max operates at a maximum speed of only 27W in regular conditions-similar to its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

iFanr’s testing revealed that while the iPhone 16 Pro Max can peak at around 39W but it isn’t a sustained performance. For everyday charging scenarios, the phone maxes out at 27W, aligning with the charging capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This revelation suggests that Apple may not have invested in new charging hardware for the latest model, leading to a disappointing lack of advancements.

The charging efficiency of the iPhone 16 Pro Max was also highlighted in iFanr’s report, indicating that it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to charge from 2% to 100%. This is a slight improvement over the predecessor, which takes around 1 hour and 55 minutes. However, for many consumers, the marginal time difference may not be enough to warrant an upgrade.

The launch of the iPhone 16 series has been met with mixed reactions, as many consumers and critics are expressing disappointment over the perceived lack of significant innovation. While Apple has introduced some incremental improvements, such as camera enhancements and design tweaks, users were hoping for a more substantial upgrade to justify the premium price tag. The absence of groundbreaking features, particularly in areas like charging speed and battery life, has left some feeling that the latest models do not offer enough value compared to their predecessors.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,44,900 for 256GB while the 512GB and 1TB variants will cost you Rs 1,64,900 and Rs 1,84,900, respectively.
